woo-hoo!

The inauguration address was spectacularly necessary – step 1.2 . What can I do next? step 0.1. I need to catch up.

“How to Hold On” - a sentiment appropriate for the long stretch between election day and yesterday – a foothold for a time to come perhaps – But something new – I’m reminded of something old - Remember - ”To Build”.  Builders making a living by building - DIYers making a dream with materials and imagination. And builders of excess – exploiting land and incomes - Builders destroying when looking away - Condos and “predatory lenders” – What’s in the middle? [...long pause filled with suggestions...or maybe the answer is simpler than that (though just as far-reaching)... Us]…. How well does the micro reflect the macro? [no pause] Is there a grand unified theory? Abstract versus Particular - Do they share the same sense of gravity?

Not what I intended to write – maybe they carry their own – I’ll let it go.

…also been busy nights and weekends getting ready for a new installation in Providence, opening Friday, September 26th…

(in progress…)

Red Ball

Busy this last month or so catching up on work-work, replacing and repairing cars on a budget of nil, cutting drastically my daily coffee intake… oh, and managing 2 empty studios, in hopes to make them no longer empty or gouging rent.

Update: …and here’s a few more pics of the installation – what started with simplicity and clarity came close to confusion right up to the end (from 2nd day in to 2nd-to-last day of installing):

It’s been a week of installing and only a few days left – it’s a blast, enjoying every minute of it and everyone here at the Soap Factory has been very kind and helpful. Plus it’s a great group of artists to be working alongside. All the work is shaping up to be quite fantastic.

Despite that, here’s a dull detail from day 2 of install:

3 random views from my bike ride between where I’m staying across downtown Minneapolis and the Soap Factory – ever had Totino’s frozen pizza?

1st half-day at the soap factory, a cool, little impromptu work-shop in the gallery…

many many pictures to come in the coming month – studio, nyc, travels, etc.

But, for now…
